Well, I finally feel like I am home back here in Phoenix. I know I haven't blogged in a while and there's a lot to say, so I'll try to catch up.
As of last weekend, I kind of just feel like I slipped back into my old life here, and I mean that in a good way. I went hiking up near Prescott on Saturday to start training for the Summit Challenge in November. (1 day, 26 miles, 7 peaks- eek!) Then I ce back to Phoenix for Amanda's birthday celebration, which ended up being quite an evening. We started with drinks at Gallo Blanco and then had pizza at Cibo. There was a man across from us who kept taking our picture. The flash was going off so much, it was like paparazzi. One of the girls politely asked him to stop, and he said no.
"Well, it's just that the flash is kind of annoying," she said.
"Your VOICE is kind of annoying," he replied.
Long story short, he would not stop taking pictures despite requests from us and the server. Finally, the owner showed up and told him to get the hell out of his restaurant. And on the way out, this guy punched the busboy. Unbelievable. But otherwise, a fabulous night!
It was so good to be back at church on Sunday. Great to see everyone. I love this church. Afterwards, Amanda and I went to Blue Hound Kitchen downtown and enjoyed bottomless mimosas with brunch. (Funny because, for us, bottomless means 2-3 drinks.) And then we were not 100% sober, so it became very important that we go to Dairy Queen (where Amanda was winking at me) and then Frances, my favorite shop in Phoenix.I came home that night, and Denise and I made spaghetti squash for dinner, which was awesome. It was just such a fun day.
After many certification problems, I was finally able to start work on Tuesday. I think it's going to be a great school year.
I spent this weekend up in Pintetop with Kristin and some other girls at her parents' house there. It is currently 110 degrees in the Valley versus the 70's up there. Their house doesn't even need an air conditioner, which you wouldn't expect in AZ. We played Disney Scene It and watched Finding Nemo and drank a LOT of alcohol, including Kristin's homemade sangria. I went to Bernie's on the way he to swim, which was great. He asked me I I was hungry on the way there, and when I got to his place, he basically had a whole salad bar waiting for me and had put a Diet Coke in the freezer so it would be nice and cold for me. He's such a sweetheart.
So this is my life in Phoenix. It is everything I wanted it to be, and so much easier this time around. I'm even happy with my living situation. (Staying with a couple from church.) They are so wonderful and fun, and I have a really comfortable bed. I'll probably be getting my own place downtown near the end of Sepember, but I'm really happy here in meantime.
When I first moved back to Chicago, I had this feeling deep down like I'd made a terrible mistake. Being here makes me feel like I've fixed that.
