Zion with the Girls

This is going to be a long post. SO many things that happened in just 48 hours, and I want to remember them all. Meow.

We left for Zion after work on Friday. Things got a little silly on the way up there.

Why did Susie fall out of the tree?

She had no arms.

Knock knock

Who’s there?

Not Susie!

(Hannah almost ended a relationship when the guy wouldn’t let her finish this joke…)

Then, I was texting with my friend John, but it was my turn to drive. Hannah took over and typed what I said. And then added the word “meow” into each text.  All weekend, someone would say something, and someone else would add, “meowmeow.”

The rain began as soon as we found a campsite, and the girls hastily set up their tent in the dark. (I got to sleep in Stella, Sia’s Jeep. Because I am not a fan of tents.) The girls had a pretty good laugh in the morning when they saw the tent in the daylight.

We left the tent to head into town for coffee and experienced one of the most terrifying rides of our lives. We had somehow missed the road sign that said “Impassable When Wet” (“It was in 12 point font!” Hannah exclaimed) and Stella was skidding all over the place on our way down the mesa. I was sure we were going to plummet over the edge to our deaths. While enjoying coffee and a lemon pecan scone at Deep Creek Coffee, we devised a plan. The rain was going to continue. The road would get worse. We had to go back for our gear sooner rather than later. Eek!

Sia pulled over and talked to some random campers at the bottom of the mesa. A sexy Latin guy gave her the following pep talk: "You got this! Use the tools that are right in front of you!! Steady and confident, and don't use the brakes..... just like in life." And she did it! We survived!

*I never finished this post because life got crazy and friendships fell apart and it all just makes me really sad. But I just noticed the draft still sitting here and wanted to at least share the pictures I still have on my phone and say a few more things about this weekend. It really was fabulous. The rain at Zion meant that there were waterfalls pouring out of the main canyon. It was awesome to look at rappels I've done and see water flowing there. That night, there was a lot of alcohol and we met these climbers from Canada and this drifter who let us play his didgeridoo...

And then the next day, we hiked Angel's Landing.

(Look at that tiny spot in the lower right hand corner- that's a shuttle bus!)

We called ourselves a quad-fecta of beauty and awesomeness.

Why I Love Bust Magazine (and you should, too)

Since I am finally done with Practicum I and only have one project left to finish for my Reading and Language Theory class, I decided to spend the evening relaxing with the latest issue of my favorite magazine, Bust . In this issue, I read about: Fat women on reality shows A new version of roller derby called Derby Lite A global O that will be occurring on December 21-22 Recipes for finger foods to serve at holiday parties How to make your own yarn Asheville, NC (now I want to move there even more...) Amy Poehler's views on feminism Divorce ranches in Nevada from the 1930's through the 1960's (it used to be really hard to get a divorce, and Nevada had laws that made it super easy) Homemade Christmas gift ideas A guide to "handling some of life's major milestones- marriage, childbirth, and death- with a DIY frame of mind" The monthly "One-handed read" column And of course, there are the fashion and beauty sections. Also, book, movie, and music revie

I got a little out of control...

I started my end of the year celebration a day early with margaritas at Lalo's. Unfortunately, since I don't drink very often, they affected me pretty quickly. I knocked my fork onto the sidewalk. Nancy (with her 80's hair) pretended not to know me. Nina gave me this look. Good times, good times. 40 more minutes of school, and then I am FREE!!!!!

Fall!

Okay, I’ll admit it.  I’m excited for fall.  I LOVE fall.  Things I’m looking forward to: Sweaters and hoodies Cinnamon candles  Leaves crunching under your feet Carving pumpkins and toasting the seeds (that I will give as gifts because I don’t actually like them) Going to the apple orchard with my mom… apple donuts and apple ciders slushees… Scary movies Watching my Charlie Brown DVDs Starting school!  I swear, September always flies by in an adrenaline-filled haze… The smell of burning leaves Football!!! Making apple pie (that will most likely be given as a gift because I’ll be dieting) Fall crafts (I think this year I want to attempt a wreath) Hot apple cider My one and only complaint about fall is that it means winter is coming…
