Snowshoeing

I tried something new with Kris yesterday! He wanted to show me Stewart Falls, a 200-foot waterfall near the Sundance Resort. It was just under 2 miles each way, which was the perfect distance since snowshoeing is harder than hiking and I wasn't completely steady on my feet. One thing I love about hiking with Kris is that he always offers me a hand when he thinks I might have trouble, but it never feels patronizing, just helpful. I fall down a lot.

It was only $8 to rent the snowshoes for the day! This is something I never thought I'd try. I'm so glad I gave it a chance!

The scenery along the way was beautiful.

And then this!

We finished just as it was getting dark. I had a slight situation... Somehow, the back of my legs were covered with ice. We tried to brush it off, but it was frozen to my pants.

This wasn't a big deal while we were hiking (although it was only 16 degrees), but when we got in the car, the ice melted and I was sitting there wearing cold, wet pants. We had to stop at Target so I could grab some yoga pants, and I was mortified to actually go out to eat while dressed like that.

Kris took me to Olive Garden for dinner. Because he is wonderful and I'm a basic bitch and I love that place.

I have such a crush on this guy. It's actually kind of embarrassing; aren't girls supposed to play hard to get? Apparently I suck at that game. But how could I not be head over heels for him? When his family asks him how we met, he says "in jail." I just thought this was funny, but then yesterday we were listening to Frank Turner (Kris knows I love Frank Turner, so he puts that on in the car pretty often) and all of a sudden I heard a lyric I've never noticed before: "On the first night we met you said 'Well darling, let's make a deal: If anybody ever asks us, let's tell them that we met in jail.'" My heart just melted a little; it was so perfectly sweet and punk rock all at once.

Anyway, enough mooning over Kris. I could go on and on, but the title of this post is "Snowshoeing." And so, in conclusion, snowshoeing was super fun and I want to do it again. With Kris.

Why I Love Bust Magazine (and you should, too)

Since I am finally done with Practicum I and only have one project left to finish for my Reading and Language Theory class, I decided to spend the evening relaxing with the latest issue of my favorite magazine, Bust . In this issue, I read about: Fat women on reality shows A new version of roller derby called Derby Lite A global O that will be occurring on December 21-22 Recipes for finger foods to serve at holiday parties How to make your own yarn Asheville, NC (now I want to move there even more...) Amy Poehler's views on feminism Divorce ranches in Nevada from the 1930's through the 1960's (it used to be really hard to get a divorce, and Nevada had laws that made it super easy) Homemade Christmas gift ideas A guide to "handling some of life's major milestones- marriage, childbirth, and death- with a DIY frame of mind" The monthly "One-handed read" column And of course, there are the fashion and beauty sections. Also, book, movie, and music revie

I got a little out of control...

I started my end of the year celebration a day early with margaritas at Lalo's. Unfortunately, since I don't drink very often, they affected me pretty quickly. I knocked my fork onto the sidewalk. Nancy (with her 80's hair) pretended not to know me. Nina gave me this look. Good times, good times. 40 more minutes of school, and then I am FREE!!!!!

Fall!

Okay, I’ll admit it.  I’m excited for fall.  I LOVE fall.  Things I’m looking forward to: Sweaters and hoodies Cinnamon candles  Leaves crunching under your feet Carving pumpkins and toasting the seeds (that I will give as gifts because I don’t actually like them) Going to the apple orchard with my mom… apple donuts and apple ciders slushees… Scary movies Watching my Charlie Brown DVDs Starting school!  I swear, September always flies by in an adrenaline-filled haze… The smell of burning leaves Football!!! Making apple pie (that will most likely be given as a gift because I’ll be dieting) Fall crafts (I think this year I want to attempt a wreath) Hot apple cider My one and only complaint about fall is that it means winter is coming…
