I spend a lot of time looking at maps, and recently I noticed a mountain range that was pretty close to SLC, but I’d never heard any of my friends mention it. I asked around, and no one had heard of it. So I decided to go check it out.
This place was amazing. After cross the national forest boundary, I did not see any other people. None of the trails were on All Trails, so I just looked at the topo map, picked out a trail that looked pretty easy, and started walking.
I love hiking alone because I can just be weird. When I arrived at this meadow, I had a Julie Andrews moment and needed to twirl and sing.
And then I had the idea that I should make a music video. So this was a very slow hike because I stopped a lot to sing and take pictures.
A few days later, I went back and explored the other side of this mountain range. This area was a bit more populated, and this trail in particular was crowded, but that’s because there’s a cold water geyser coming out of this mountain! Also, the trail is flat and easy, so I saw lots of families.
So many unnecessary cairns! I knocked them down, and then I realized a family was watching me, and they probably thought I was a monster.
Then I did a short hike on a quieter trail overlooking this most perfect looking valley. I want to move to this town! I have it all figured out; this is where a Hallmark movie would take place. I’d move there and everyone would think I was this bougie city girl because I like to have nails done, and there’d be this handsome guy in flannel who’s especially antagonistic because some b-word from the city broke his heart, but then one day I’d be out hiking and trip and fall, and the guy would find me and be all mad at me for doing something stupid, but he’d help me down the mountain and realize I’m not like that other city girl he knew. And he’d probably have horses, so he’d give me riding lessons, and we’d fall in love, and then the kindly old man with white hair who had been trying to match us up this whole time would end up being Santa. The End.
Next I visited this interesting spring.
And the last stop- a geyser that was a famous spot along the Oregon Trail.
