Last night I went to what I think was one of the best concerts I've seen- The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I really didn't want to go to Ravinia alone, but then I thought, I better get used to this. I could be single for the rest of my life, and my friends don't always have the same interests I do. And I can't let that stop me from doing things I enjoy. Besides, I needed some time to myself. I was really upset all day yesterday about some things that were said to me the night before. My friend had no idea he was being hurtful, but it was pretty awful. It was one of those things where it might not be hurtful in most situations or to most people, but it was to me because of past experiences. Anyway, I think I'm better today.
So the concert was amazing. They sang hymns, and folk songs, and even stuff from Broadway shows. I was so wrapped up in the music that I didn't even notice I was alone. And I got all choked up during Battle Hymn of the Republic and Somewhere Over the Rainbow, so maybe it's good that no one was there to see that. I think Ravinia is one of my favorite places in the world. I love when it gets dark, and the only light is from people's candles and fireflies and the stars. It can't get any better than sitting in that kind of environment listening to the most beautiful music you've ever heard.
I'm so glad I got over my nervousness and went. I'm sad for anyone who missed it. They've only be here I think 7 times since 1893. The last time they were here was 1984. I really hope they come back sooner than 23 years!
