Yesterday was an unexpected day, but a good one.
My day started at Canyon Falls. I loved this spot! Not only were the falls beautiful, but the river cuts through a canyon with sheer black walls. I read that there is a good cliff jumping spot further downstream. (No thank you!)
Then, I located the Hilltop Restaurant in L'Anse, famous for their sweet rolls that weigh over a pound and are as big as your face.
It was delicious, but I was just a little disappointed that it didn't have cream cheese frosting. I think it will take me several days to finish this monster.
And then my car wouldn't start at the gas station. Someone jumped it, and I headed to the O'Reilly's in Houghton, which has only been open about a week. So lucky! The guy who installed my new battery was super nice and also a Chicago native.
Since it was a rainy day, I figured it would be a good day to visit the national park located on the Keweenaw Peninsula. I was surprised to find that it actually consists of many sites all over the peninsula! I chose the Seaman Mineral Museum as the spot to get my stamp, and this place was almost overwhelming. So many things to look at! I wish I'd gotten there earlier and had more time. Lots of stuff from AZ and Utah, as well as local things.
I need to look for this picture sandstone while I'm out hiking. This sample is from Kanab!
Can I just say I'm a little disappointed that I posted on FB that I was at the Seaman Museum, and no one made a comment about that?
I had a great dinner and local beer at this Michigan Cafe place in cute, historic Calumet. Then I camped at a state park right on the beach. It was so nice to sit by the water before bed. There were crazy storms last night, and I don't think anyone slept well. I felt so bad for the people in tents!
