I skipped a whole lotta stuff, but I'll come back to that later.
Yesterday I left Chicago and drove to Traverse City, stopping by the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes on the way. They were pretty and all, but dunes just don't do it for me. I even forgot to take pictures.
I spent the night at Traverse City State Park and was so irritated. There was tons of traffic; it was so crowded. I couldn't understand why anyone would want to visit this place! Then, in the morning, I found out their big cherry festival is happening. So perhaps I'd give Traverse City another chance when there aren't a million people there.
I ventured into town this morning to check out Potter's bakery. The ugly fritter was amazing! (No glaze, just cinnamon sugar and pecans. They told me that's what makes it dirty.)
I stopped along the shore between Charlevoix and Petoskey to look for Petoskey stones and I FOUND ONE!!!! I never find stuff, and I didn't think I'd find one of these. It's dark so I can't take a picture of it now, but here is the Wikipedia article explaining what they are:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petoskey_stone
It got a little stormy then, so I hung out in Mackinaw Ciry while I waited for the weather to clear up. No way was I driving across the scary bridge in a storm! It was bad enough doing it with construction and slow traffic!
But I made it across without dying. And I will not be returning to Chicago that way!
My last activity for the day was Tahquamenon Falls. Very pretty!
There's a brewery near the parking area, so I stopped in and enjoyed a beer at the bar. I've been trying to be better about mingling with folks on my trips... I am usually shy and have zero self confidence. The news happened to be on at the bar, and when Hilary's face came on, the guy next to me said, "Someone just needs to shoot that bitch." So, I realized immediately that these were not that type of people I'd want to mingle with!
