I got in the car and headed west immediately after work, and the further I got into the desert, the happier I was. I enjoy alpine settings, but for some reason, the desert is where my heart is happiest.
A coworker recommended some free campsites down a dirt road, and I was not disappointed.

I only did one hike, but it was a good one. I hiked through a forest of ancient bristlecone pines to a glacial cirque with a glacier still in it.
The trail
An ancient bristlecone pine that's been dead since the 1400's
I just loved the way this tree twisted
This tree was born in 1230 B.C. (It looks dead, but there are actually live branches coming out of the right side.)

I just couldn't get over these views.
When I got up in the cirque, I thought this was all part of the glacier. I took all these snaps of myself laying in the snow with captions like "#glacierlife" and felt really stupid when my friend was like, "Um, that's just snow." But there is a glacier there! It's the southern most glacier in the U.S.
I detoured to Lake Teresa on the way back.
It was just the perfect day. I was home by about 7:30 that night.
