Exploring the Bradshaw Mountains

What a weekend! I heard about these waterfalls on the Hassayampa River and wanted to find them. It was a complicated process involving multiple maps and references, but we did it! I felt very accomplished. And as a bonus, we found this old mine structure full of amazing graffiti; the perfect place to throw a party! We were also intrigued by the fact that there is an active mining claim here... People are looking for gold!

Lots of pretty cascades along the "river"

Laura was climbing around on the falls and saw this cute little frog. She went to touch it, and it leaped off the ledge into the water. She was marveling about its eyesight, depth perception, etc., and I was like, “But what if he didn’t know he was going to make it? Laura, what if the thought of you touching him was so repulsive, he was willing to jump to his possible death?” We laughed and laughed about this.

Second waterfall

One of the best parts of this day was escaping the heat- 115 in the Valley, 74 and rainy up in the mountains. It even hailed on us!

I got to sing with the worship team on Sunday morning, which I really really love. It’s just as dorky as it sounds, but I don’t care. I love to get up there and kick off my heels and just sing. I had lunch with Rachel and Carmen, and then a date at the aquarium. It was pretty pathetic. Both the aquarium and the date. The date did not ask me any questions about myself and started talking about tripping on shrooms like, 10 minutes into the date. The aquarium really didn’t have much to see. I was like, “Where are the penguins? Where are the otters? WHERE IS THE BELUGA???” Chicago has ruined me for other cities.

When I got home, I got on Tinder. I was determined to not be discouraged and to keep trying. And who should I be matched with but Sexy Windows! There was some texting and flirting and I really really hope he likes me, and also, that I don’t get in my own way with all my social awkwardness. (I think I’m really bad at letting guys know I’m interested.)

There are good things ahead of me, I just know it.

Why I Love Bust Magazine (and you should, too)

Since I am finally done with Practicum I and only have one project left to finish for my Reading and Language Theory class, I decided to spend the evening relaxing with the latest issue of my favorite magazine, Bust . In this issue, I read about: Fat women on reality shows A new version of roller derby called Derby Lite A global O that will be occurring on December 21-22 Recipes for finger foods to serve at holiday parties How to make your own yarn Asheville, NC (now I want to move there even more...) Amy Poehler's views on feminism Divorce ranches in Nevada from the 1930's through the 1960's (it used to be really hard to get a divorce, and Nevada had laws that made it super easy) Homemade Christmas gift ideas A guide to "handling some of life's major milestones- marriage, childbirth, and death- with a DIY frame of mind" The monthly "One-handed read" column And of course, there are the fashion and beauty sections. Also, book, movie, and music revie

I got a little out of control...

I started my end of the year celebration a day early with margaritas at Lalo's. Unfortunately, since I don't drink very often, they affected me pretty quickly. I knocked my fork onto the sidewalk. Nancy (with her 80's hair) pretended not to know me. Nina gave me this look. Good times, good times. 40 more minutes of school, and then I am FREE!!!!!

Fall!

Okay, I’ll admit it.  I’m excited for fall.  I LOVE fall.  Things I’m looking forward to: Sweaters and hoodies Cinnamon candles  Leaves crunching under your feet Carving pumpkins and toasting the seeds (that I will give as gifts because I don’t actually like them) Going to the apple orchard with my mom… apple donuts and apple ciders slushees… Scary movies Watching my Charlie Brown DVDs Starting school!  I swear, September always flies by in an adrenaline-filled haze… The smell of burning leaves Football!!! Making apple pie (that will most likely be given as a gift because I’ll be dieting) Fall crafts (I think this year I want to attempt a wreath) Hot apple cider My one and only complaint about fall is that it means winter is coming…
