I am teaching a section of writing this year. When my
students finish an assignment, they have to write- letters, journal entries,
stories, comics… anything they want, as long as they’re writing. Today I
received this letter:
Dear Ms. B.,
Ever since I came to this school, I felt like automatically
I was going to fail 6th grade because there’s this kid named Ben. He’s
from my old school and he’s always saying stuff to me. He’s always saying that
I have no friends and that I’m lonely. I really hate him. This morning I was
sitting on the back of the bus and he threw a paper to me. But you know what, I
don’t care because I come to school to learn, to be someone special when I grow
up. I’m not gonna let a kid stand in the way of my dreams. I will keep
learning.
Sincerely,
Jesus
This kid is breaking my heart. I’m going to write back to
him and try to encourage him. And then find this little punk who’s bullying him
and make him regret it. No one messes with my kids.
