I left for my trip on Friday and have mostly just been driving. On the first day, I stopped to see the White Mountain Petroglyphs in Wyoming. They were faint, but it was still an interesting spot. There were also sand dunes all around there, and an interesting landmark called Boar’s Tusk that I couldn’t get to because of the bad road.
During my drive the next day, I was admiring all the rolling green hills in central Nebraska when the tire pressure light went on.
I turned up the music and tried to ignore it, but a few minutes later, the tire was completely flat.
I then had a 5 hour drive to Yankton since I had to go slow on the spare. Luckily there’s pretty much no traffic out here. Most of the other drivers waved at me. I stopped at a Pump & Pantry Gas Station/Motel (I saw a few of these places that double as motels and gas stations!) and a lady was writing a check to pay for her soda. I usually hate driving across Nebraska, but maybe that’s because I’m always on I-80. I really loved taking the backroads yesterday.

I decided to attempt to change it myself. I didn’t want to pay for roadside assistance, and I’ve seen it done so many times... it can’t be that hard, right?
Well, I hadn’t even gotten the spare out before a guy in a pickup truck stopped to help. A few minutes later, another guy stopped, too, and of course they knew each other. Such nice people, but there was this awful part of me that wondered if they were Trump supporters, and I hate how he’s caused so much divisiveness in this country.

When I finally pulled into Yankton, it felt so familiar even though I’ve never been here. I saw a Pizza Ranch and a Thrivent office and three Lutheran churches and had a lovely conversation with the lady at the front desk about gray hair. There were crazy storms in the middle of the night that had me waiting for the tornado sirens to go off. I am home... I love the Midwest.
