Gossip Girl has quickly become one of my favorite shows. One thing I like is that none of the characters are all good or all bad. For example, Blair is a heinous witch to some people, but a really good friend to others. And Chuck- my friend at work can't stand him, and I admit, I've had moments of intense dislike. But you get these rare glimpses of his kind, vulnerable, side, and you think that maybe he's not so bad. Like his crush on Blair- my heart was breaking for him.
In the past few episodes, we've learned that some awful girl named Georgina is coming back, and Serena is very upset. Georgina obviously has some dirt on Serena, and last night Serena told Blair that she'd killed someone. Chuck has been so sweet in covering for her and helping her out, even if his ways are a little unethical. It's interesting that she hasn't confided in Dan, her boyfriend, who is the only all-around nice guy on the show who's not caught up in the drama. Scenes from next week's episode show Serena spiraling out of control, drinking and sleeping with another guy. My guess is that she still doesn't tell Dan what's really going on.
While it's so frustrating that Serena won't tell Dan, I totally understand why. Serena can talk to Chuck because he understands her past and doesn't judge her for it. Dan, on the other hand, might not want to be with her if he knew the things she'd done. He's such a nice guy; she can't completely reveal herself to him because he wouldn't understand, and she'd risk him leaving her. In fact, in next week's episode, they showed a clip of Dan breaking up with her.
This silly little soap opera has managed to understand how I feel about guys. I'm afraid to date a nice guy because he wouldn't be able to understand my past. And your past will always come back to haunt you at some point; a nice guy wouldn't understand all that. Without even knowing the whole story about her past actions, Dan is leaving Serena. And I think that's what would happen in real life, too. It's the Chuck's of this world who will understand you. They make terrible boyfriends, but they don't judge and they're there for you in times of need.
I never guessed that Gossip Girl would be so relevant to my life.
