I have been SO into the Olympics this year! They get me to the gym almost every night. The time just flies by on the elliptical, and when I start to get tired, I look at those athletes and convince myself I can make it another 5 minutes. For some reason, I've found that I really enjoy watching the skiing. I was on the elliptical last night when Lindsay Vonn fell, and Julia Mancuso was sent back to do her run again- craziness. I also love the figure skating (of course); it was so crazy when that girl from the U.S. gave herself a nosebleed from spinning so fast! And the snowboarding is just insane. I was watching them do tricks in the half pipe (I don't know what that event is called), and I just kept thinking about how awful it is that one fall completely eliminates you. You get two runs, and that's it. I don't think I could handle the pressure of losing everything by making just one tiny mistake. Good thing I'll never be in the Olympics. Anyway, I'll be really sad when they're over.
Since I am finally done with Practicum I and only have one project left to finish for my Reading and Language Theory class, I decided to spend the evening relaxing with the latest issue of my favorite magazine, Bust . In this issue, I read about: Fat women on reality shows A new version of roller derby called Derby Lite A global O that will be occurring on December 21-22 Recipes for finger foods to serve at holiday parties How to make your own yarn Asheville, NC (now I want to move there even more...) Amy Poehler's views on feminism Divorce ranches in Nevada from the 1930's through the 1960's (it used to be really hard to get a divorce, and Nevada had laws that made it super easy) Homemade Christmas gift ideas A guide to "handling some of life's major milestones- marriage, childbirth, and death- with a DIY frame of mind" The monthly "One-handed read" column And of course, there are the fashion and beauty sections.
