My team consists of 5 teachers- 3 men and 2 women. The other woman doesn't eat lunch with us, so it's just me and 3 boys. They are close to my age, although they are married and have kids.
At first, they were polite and quiet around me. I was worried they didn't like me. But then last week, I made a stupid comment about how I've always had a secret crush on Eminem and kind of want to marry him. (He needs a nice girl after that awful girl, Kim.) No one seemed to hear me, and I was grateful because I couldn't believe that came out of my mouth. We had a staff meeting the next day. I was sitting there talking to someone when all of a sudden a bag of peanut M&Ms landed on the table in front of me. I looked up in confusion and saw Jacob, my teammate, standing there laughing. "I know how much you love them," he said. "I know you want to marry them." My face turned bright red as my coworkers gave me puzzled looks, and I knew I was in trouble.
The period of politeness is over, and I'm so glad. These guys are hilarious. Today at lunch we were talking about cheating. I said that if my husband messes up and cheats on me once, I never want to know about it. But if he does it more than once, then obviously he doesn't want to be married and he needs to tell me so we can just end things. Brian was quiet for a minute, then cracked up. "I can't wait to meet your future husband," he said. "I'm going to tell him, 'Dude, you are so lucky. You get a freebie! But you better choose wisely. It better be a girl named Trixie or Bambi or something. Don't get attached, cuz it can only be a one-time thing..." Okay, it really doesn't sound that funny when I write it, but we were all in stitches at the time. We also concocted a scheme in which Jacob would go into the strip club near our school just to call his wife and say he was going to be a little late coming home from work that day. We all wondered what she would say when she heard the music in the background and a voice calling Candy to the stage. Jacob refuses to try it, however; he claims he already knows what her reaction would be, and apparently it would end with his remains being dragged away in trash cans by Waste Management.
Working with boys is fun.
