Resolutions Update

We're about 2 weeks into the New Year. Here's how it's going so far.

1. I lost 3 pounds last week. I'm about 3 pounds away from a pretty big milestone. I'm trying so hard to stick with the Weight Watchers, but Nina and Stephanie will be in town this weekend, which means lots of food and alcohol. Not sure I'll be able to resist.

I attempted to work out yesterday. Epic fail. It was my first time in the fitness room at my apartment complex, and I discovered they only had the stupid kind of elliptical I don't like. So I decided to try a treadmill instead. I put it on the interval program, thinking it would be like the elliptical and just raise the incline every so often. I didn't realize that on a treadmill, the interval program speeds you up every so often. So all of a sudden it jumped to almost 10 and I tried to keep up for about 5 seconds, then went flying off. Luckily there was no one around to see this. I think I will stick with yoga at my church, which is becoming one of my favorite parts of the week.

2. I called my grandma on Saturday, and I'll call her again this weekend. She called my cousin an antichrist, but I'm pretty sure she meant atheist. She also said I'm the apple of her eye. We talked for like, 40 minutes. I seriously love my grandma.

3. Amanda is going to do a makeover on me soon, and I will finally learn how to do eye makeup and maybe even how to wear my hair wavy!

4. So I was doing really well with reading my Bible before Christmas, and I've hardly done it at all the past few weeks. But it's in front of me right now, so I'll read tonight. I'm stuck in Jeremiah; can you really blame me for not wanting to read?

5. Haven't talked to the Jewish guy.

6. Got things straightened out with my insurance company. I'm working at being better at keeping up with all the little financial chores. It's hard when you're at work from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., though.

7. Still suck at praying.

8. Desk is somewhat organized.

9. Haven't really thought about the self-centered thing, which is probably not good.

10. Need to figure out guitar. Maybe next month when things calm down a little.

11. No time for reading.

12. Less anxiety? Ha. Woke up in the middle of the night having a panic attack last night. The stupidest part was what I kept thinking about. Functional text! Stupid Arizona learning standards. I was also about to have a breakdown after first hour yesterday. I had so much drama going on in that class. During my second hour prep, I went next door and ranted to Jacob about kids smelling like weed and attendance problems and defiance and disrespect and difficult parents. Later that period, he came in my room and put a bag of peanut M&M's on my desk. I love my team.

This is really all that's going on with me. Haven't blogged because I don't have much to say. I'm sure that will change after Nina and Steph visit this weekend!

Why I Love Bust Magazine (and you should, too)

Since I am finally done with Practicum I and only have one project left to finish for my Reading and Language Theory class, I decided to spend the evening relaxing with the latest issue of my favorite magazine, Bust . In this issue, I read about: Fat women on reality shows A new version of roller derby called Derby Lite A global O that will be occurring on December 21-22 Recipes for finger foods to serve at holiday parties How to make your own yarn Asheville, NC (now I want to move there even more...) Amy Poehler's views on feminism Divorce ranches in Nevada from the 1930's through the 1960's (it used to be really hard to get a divorce, and Nevada had laws that made it super easy) Homemade Christmas gift ideas A guide to "handling some of life's major milestones- marriage, childbirth, and death- with a DIY frame of mind" The monthly "One-handed read" column And of course, there are the fashion and beauty sections. Also, book, movie, and music revie

I got a little out of control...

I started my end of the year celebration a day early with margaritas at Lalo's. Unfortunately, since I don't drink very often, they affected me pretty quickly. I knocked my fork onto the sidewalk. Nancy (with her 80's hair) pretended not to know me. Nina gave me this look. Good times, good times. 40 more minutes of school, and then I am FREE!!!!!

Fall!

Okay, I’ll admit it.  I’m excited for fall.  I LOVE fall.  Things I’m looking forward to: Sweaters and hoodies Cinnamon candles  Leaves crunching under your feet Carving pumpkins and toasting the seeds (that I will give as gifts because I don’t actually like them) Going to the apple orchard with my mom… apple donuts and apple ciders slushees… Scary movies Watching my Charlie Brown DVDs Starting school!  I swear, September always flies by in an adrenaline-filled haze… The smell of burning leaves Football!!! Making apple pie (that will most likely be given as a gift because I’ll be dieting) Fall crafts (I think this year I want to attempt a wreath) Hot apple cider My one and only complaint about fall is that it means winter is coming…
