Snow

I can't smell snow coming like Lorelei can. But I feel the same way she does about it. There's another episode (I think when she's dating Max) where she talks about how magic snow is. Every year, we get at least one snowfall that feels just like that. This year's perfect snow was on Friday night.

It technically wasn't our first snowfall of the year. We got a decent amount of snow a few weeks ago, but it wasn't the good kind of snow. I don't know how to describe it, but it just wasn't right. It was wet and heavy and left a layer of ice underneath it and was really really cold. Although I did hear that a bunch of people in Wicker Park had a huge, impromptu snowball fight and was sad I didn't know about it. But it really wasn't the kind of snow that felt like magic.

Friday's snow was magic. It started snowing during school, and all after-school activities were cancelled. I know it's crazy, but I love that feeling of everyone brushing the snow off of their cars in the parking lot after school/work. Actually, I was sad that no one was at the cars closest to me; they definitely would've gotten hit with snowballs. It was the perfect snow for packing.

This was my first time driving my Subaru in serious snow. My car is a beast. Everyone else's wheels were spinning, and I just pulled out like it was no big deal. There was only one moment where I felt my car slide a little. I love my car. Although, not to brag or anything, but I think I'm a pretty great snow driver. :)

My 35 minute commute took two and a half hours. No big deal. I stopped at Target to stock up on supplies so I could be a hermit this weekend and made sure I had a full tank of gas. My only mistake was all the Diet Coke I drank; I was about to pee my pants when I got home. But it was fun. I texted my friends (and got yelled at for doing so), watched Glee on my phone, and had a dance party, which ended up entertaining other drivers as well. When I got home, I trudged across the street to the park and made snow angels. I laid there in the snow and caught snowflakes on my tongue. It was bliss. I wished there was someone to have a snowball fight with, or go sledding with. But the park was quiet, so I headed home, humming that ridiculous song "Snow" from White Christmas. I paused at the door and giggled to myself; there was a clear set of footprints leading from the door of my building to the snow angels. I imagined people walking by and wondering about the person who lives here who plays in the snow.

Then I went into hermit mode. I read the latest Victoria Dahl book. (LOVE her!) Today I cleaned my apartment and made these absolutely amazing Hungry Girl cupcakes that are only 4 Weight Watcher points each. I talked to my beloved Paula for over an hour for the first time since she had the twins. I watched Ghost Adventures and read Bittersweet. Tomorrow I'm going to two church services (long story), watching football, and making Valentine's decorations for my windows. After a busy weekend last week (I'll post about my brunch as soon as I can find my camera cord to upload pics!) and a busy weekend next week (Cortnee is coming to town!), this was perfection.

And it was so much better because of the snow.

Why I Love Bust Magazine (and you should, too)

Since I am finally done with Practicum I and only have one project left to finish for my Reading and Language Theory class, I decided to spend the evening relaxing with the latest issue of my favorite magazine, Bust . In this issue, I read about: Fat women on reality shows A new version of roller derby called Derby Lite A global O that will be occurring on December 21-22 Recipes for finger foods to serve at holiday parties How to make your own yarn Asheville, NC (now I want to move there even more...) Amy Poehler's views on feminism Divorce ranches in Nevada from the 1930's through the 1960's (it used to be really hard to get a divorce, and Nevada had laws that made it super easy) Homemade Christmas gift ideas A guide to "handling some of life's major milestones- marriage, childbirth, and death- with a DIY frame of mind" The monthly "One-handed read" column And of course, there are the fashion and beauty sections. Also, book, movie, and music revie

I got a little out of control...

I started my end of the year celebration a day early with margaritas at Lalo's. Unfortunately, since I don't drink very often, they affected me pretty quickly. I knocked my fork onto the sidewalk. Nancy (with her 80's hair) pretended not to know me. Nina gave me this look. Good times, good times. 40 more minutes of school, and then I am FREE!!!!!

Fall!

Okay, I’ll admit it.  I’m excited for fall.  I LOVE fall.  Things I’m looking forward to: Sweaters and hoodies Cinnamon candles  Leaves crunching under your feet Carving pumpkins and toasting the seeds (that I will give as gifts because I don’t actually like them) Going to the apple orchard with my mom… apple donuts and apple ciders slushees… Scary movies Watching my Charlie Brown DVDs Starting school!  I swear, September always flies by in an adrenaline-filled haze… The smell of burning leaves Football!!! Making apple pie (that will most likely be given as a gift because I’ll be dieting) Fall crafts (I think this year I want to attempt a wreath) Hot apple cider My one and only complaint about fall is that it means winter is coming…
