This weekend, one of my very favorite people in the world is getting married.
Liz and I became friends in 6th grade. We were going on a field trip to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and I was mad at my friend Laura (who ended up becoming my arch enemy in high school), so I sat with the new girl on the bus instead. Liz had just moved from Atlanta and learned how to shuffle cards in Vegas. I thought she was terribly glamorous and exotic. I decided right then and there we should be BFF's. And so we were.
This girl has been by my side through all kinds of stuff. I still feel guilty about high school. I wanted so bad to go to the dark side, and Liz fought so hard to keep that from happening. I constantly ditched her and the other girls to hang out with people I thought were much more cool. But when I needed a break from the partying, I knew I could always hang out with Liz.
One of the girls is putting a scrapbook together for Liz, so I had to dig out pictures for the pages I'm contributing. Below are some of the gems I found.
I don't think I've ever been this excited to see a friend get married. We watched her date a total douchebag for 8 years. 8 YEARS!!! And now, she's marrying a wonderful man who knows just how lucky he is to be with her. The first time I hung out with the two of them, I knew right away she had finally found a man worthy of her awesomeness. A few months ago, I was driving and the song "Bless the Broken Road" came up on my shuffle and I just started crying because I thought of Liz and Tom and how true that song is for them. I'm singing at their wedding, and it's going to be really hard to keep my emotions in check! I can't wait to watch them make their vows to each other and see where life takes them.
Congratulations, Liz!!! I love you so much!!!

I love this picture on the bottom left. This was on Ellis Island day in 8th grade. Don't we look thrilled? Liz and I were in a family together. We were Russian Jews, and my husband got in trouble, so we had to sneak into the U.S.
The pictures on top were from a middle school slumber party at my house. (I love the enormous scrunchie she has on her wrist... Liz always wore huge scrunchies back then.) A cake fight had broken out, and Liz is helping me clean up in the bathroom. What makes me laugh is that, 15 years later, that's still the type of friend she is. At my Pancake Brunch Spectacular, who was in the kitchen with me trying to fix the griddle? Liz, of course. And her fiance, whose hand you can just barely see in the background, holding the griddle together. And maybe that is just one reason why they are awesome together; they are both that type of person.
