I began my day at the amazing Palouse Falls, a 198-foot waterfall formed by floods during the Ice Age.
Finally, I headed into the Wallowa Mountains. Oh my holy, this place is unreal. It's gotta be Oregon's best-kept secret; the people who know about this place stay quiet in order to keep it pristine.
Everything is so green, and there are these dramatic snow-capped mountains... It is just too much. I can't wait to go hiking tomorrow!
My next stop was Whitman Mission National Historic Site. The site itself was not too exciting. There was a pathway around this grassy area and signs that told you where buildings used to be.
But the story behind this place is interesting. The Whitmans were missionaries, and they actually got along really well with the local tribe... Until a measles outbreak occurred, and over half the tribe died. They couldn't understand why the white people weren't dying, too. This and a myriad of cultural differences led to the Cayuse tribe killing the Whitmans and nine other people.
Next, I headed to a spot in the Blue Mountains where you can hike part of the Oregon Trail. It was a pleasant little spot, and I had it all to myself.
