Mono Lake is 760,000 years old and was formed by volcanoes. There are all these weird tufa formations sticking out of it. We hiked out on a boardwalk to explore the lake.
Mom is wearing a mushroom hat and a mushroom shirt while admiring a mushroom formation.
We met a tattoo-covered girl who is hitchhiking around the Sierra's with her bird companion.
We were a little concerned by this sign.
We drove over Monitor Pass on our way to the state park.
The hot springs were closed (not that anyone in my group would have gone swimming, anyway), but we went to the state park for a waterfall hike, and it did not disappoint!
For most of the hike, it was a nice, flat trail.
There were a few muddy/wet spots, but we found creative ways over them.
And then we got to this big rocky section (which I promise is bigger than it looks here), and I thought Mom and Dad would turn around. Mom's bursitis is painful, and she's not too steady on her feet. And Dad is just impatient and did not want to climb around on rocks.
But everyone persevered, and it paid off!
Beautiful waterfalls that were really hard to photograph, but excellent in person.
Oh, and we noticed this little guy, too.
And then we got lost and ended up in this creepy small town that was full of Jefferson State sign and also probably meth heads. But we finally found our hotel and overall, I think the day went very well.
