I wasn't feeling well the day after Slideanide, and neither was Dan, so I hung out with him and his dreamy eyes while the rest of the group ran Merry Piglet. We found a nice kick it spot near Hog Springs, and when the group came back, Angela showed me where to find the Moki Queen.
Later that afternoon, Debra and I headed towards Colorado, but were distracted by a sign for Bears Ears. I've spent a decent amount of time exploring the land that is part of our nation's newest national monument, but I'd never been to the actual "bears ears." We drove up the long, windy road till we were way up in the sky with the most beautiful view you can imagine. We stopped on the saddle, or as Debra called it, the spot where you scratch a cat between the ears. The whole place had a special kind of energy, and I see why several tribes consider this sacred ground.
We spent the next day exploring Durango; such a cute town! I did some serious shopping there, and we visited this weird hot spring just outside of town. We thought it was funny that both Debra and the hot spring were wearing stripes.
Who wore it best??
We did a short hike at Mesa Verde on the way back to Cortez. (There are cliff dwellings in this picture.) We didn't want to do a tour, so we couldn't really see much on our own. We met Angela for dinner at this fabulous Thai place in town, and it pained her to hear that we drove all the way out there and barely saw anything. She's a ranger there, so we should have consulted her first! Oh well, I'm sure we'll be back. I love Mesa Verde!
